Flamebloc GS 502 is a white, aqueous-based, intumescent flame retardant coating that can be spray, brush, or roller applied.
Flamebloc GS 502 satisfies thermal barrier and/or ignition barrier requirements of the IBC code. Flamebloc GS 502 can be applied over substrates such as wood, dry wall, clean metal, and most plastics with excellent adhesion but is specifically made for coating polyurethane foam, such as found in insulation providing flame protection after curing.
Flamebloc GS 502 is a proprietary polymeric aminopolyphosphate flame retardant coating that meets GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe) specifications and requires no halogen donor.
After curing and exposure to heat or flame, the Flamebloc GS 502 coating can intumesce, building a foam char up to 100 times the original applied coating thickness. The foam char that forms provides a functional thermal barrier protecting the substrate against both heat and flame. The proprietary active ingredients of this product contribute to flame resistance by melting below flaming temperatures and resolidifying in the form of a carbon layer char that acts as a barrier between the substrate and the flame. As a result, Flamebloc GS 502 will decrease smoke evolution. In addition, it will also provide resistance to flameless combustion, referred to as afterglow. Method of Application
Flamebloc GS 502 achieves flame retardant properties by blending four (4) parts of Flamebloc GS 502 with one (1) part of Bulab 501 by volume enabling the blended coating to cure forming a fire protective film.
Once activated, the coating has a working time of 1.5 hours at 25ƒ°C and can be applied by spray, brush, or roller. Clean-up is easily accomplished with warm or hot water and soap.
